A Taste to Remember

Nasi Lemak - rich and creamy in its very definition - is the hallmark of Malay traditional cuisine, and also makes for a simple everyday comfort meal.

Back in the 80’s, Ah Wong made his humble beginning with this dish. As he and his stall roamed the roads of Jalan Peel (为食街) of Cheras, KL, he often found his spot under a tree. The legacy of Ah Wong’s nasi lemak then began, as many queued up at his stall following the warm and unmistakable fragrance of coconut-milk-cooked rice, and the touch of sweetness from the pandan leaves. 

With a side of lightly roasted peanuts that gives a satisfying crunch in each bite, a perfectly fried fish cake that pairs nicely with the freshness of crisp cucumber slices, Ah Wong’s nasi lemak is always topped up with a secret homemade spicy shrimp sambal (Hae Bee Hiam) that adds a tangy, piquant twist to the dish (and more people at the end of the queue too!).

As Ah Wong’s secret homemade spicy shrimp sambal recipe gets passed down to the next generation, we are privileged to have the opportunity to develop his recipe, taking his homely, comforting nasi lemak dish to the next level - from the Tree Side to you.
